Build it, and they may not come
Why a beautiful website won't guarantee you customers
If you’re starting a new business and are planning to jump straight into creating or commissioning your website, then take a moment to consider your approach. A beautiful website alone will not attract customers.
Back in the early days of digital marketing, an attractive website with a few relevant keywords would often be enough to attract the attention of your target customers. Today, this couldn’t be further from the truth. A website that isn’t aligned to your business goals and designed with your specific target market in mind is likely to be a waste of money.
Many entrepreneurs starting a new business get sucked into the idea that their website is their main priority. Whilst it is true that a decent, responsive website is expected these days, it’s not a panacea for your business’s marketing needs.
Follow these simple steps to avoid spending a lot of money on a website that delivers very little in the way of sales.
- Decide on your product mix and work out your sales revenues, costs and profit model
- Identify your target market and put yourself in the shoes of your prospective customer
- Craft a clear message that you think will resonate with your target customers
- Make it easy for your customers to buy from you
